Seawolves' pitchers combined to allow just three runs over 18 innings, but drop both ends of DH to Fairfield

STONY BROOK, N.Y.  – Nine Stony Brook pitchers combined to allow just three runs on 11 hits in 18 innings of baseball on Wednesday afternoon, but the Seawolves dropped both ends of the doubleheader with visiting Fairfield at Joe Nathan Field.
 
The Stags (22-15) posted a 2-1 win in 11 innings in game one against the Seawolves (17-21) and earned a 1-0 victory in the second game.
 
Freshman RHP Sam Turcotte (Toronto, Ontario) started game one on the mound for Stony Brook and allowed just one hit in three innings of work. Freshman RHP Greg Marino (Centereach, N.Y.) also tossed three scoreless innings and allowed just one hit in game one.
 
In game two, redshirt freshman RHP Aaron Glickstein (Dix Hills, N.Y.), junior RHP Kris Killackey (Middle Island, N.Y.) and junior LHP Cole Creighton (Levittown, Pa.) pitched the final five innings and did not allow a hit.
 
Game One Turning Point
In the scheduled seven-inning game, Stony Brook and Fairfield battled into the 11th inning before the Stags plated a run in the top half of the 11th.
 
Game Two Turning Point
Stony Brook attempted a rally with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning when redshirt freshman DH Michael Amandola (Babylon, N.Y.) doubled down the right field line. Senior CF Toby Handley (Whitby, Ontario) then singled into right field, but pitch runner Dan McEvoy (East Moriches, N.Y.), the potential tying run, was out at the plate on a nice throw.
 
Notes
  • Sophomore RF Dylan Resk (Ardsley, N.Y.) had three hits in game two on Wednesday for his first three-hit game of the season and fifth multi-hit game.
  • Senior CF Toby Handley (Whitby, Ontario) hit safely in each game on Wednesday and has now reached base safely in 25 straight games. .
  • Senior 1B Casey Baker (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) had a hit in game two (did not play in game one) and has now reached base safely in 21 straight games.  
On Deck
Stony Brook complete a home stand at Joe Nathan Field this weekend when the Seawolves welcome Maine visits for a three-game America East Conference series with a doubleheader at Noon on Saturday and a single game at Noon on Sunday.
