STONY BROOK, N.Y. – Sophomore C
Sean Buckhout (West Nyack, N.Y.) and senior CF
Toby Handley (Whitby, Ontario) each drove in three runs on Sunday afternoon to help the Stony Brook baseball team complete the three-game America East Conference sweep over visiting Maine with a 12-6 victory at Joe Nathan Field.
Buckhout also led the Seawolves (20-21, 8-7 AE) with a pair of hits, while sophomore RF
Dylan Resk (Ardsley, N.Y.) added two RBI. As a team, Stony Brook was issued 13 walks by Black Bear (15-23, 3-9 AE), including three times with the bases loaded in the first inning.
Junior LHP
Kevin Kernan (Mahopac, N.Y.) improved to 4-0 this season on the mound with the win. He struck out six in 5.0 innings of work.
Turning Point
After Maine scored one run in the top of the first inning, Stony Brook sent 21 batters to the plate over the next two innings to score 10 runs (three in the first and seven in the second) to take the lead. All three of the Seawolves' runs in the first inning came on bases loaded walks.
Quoting Head Coach Matt Senk
"We try to be disciplined as the plate and the guys did a good job of that this weekend. It is a credit to them because we had a tough stretch when we lost seven out of eight with extra inning games and one-run games so I'm really proud of the way we hung in this weekend and we got a good result with the sweep."
