BALTIMORE – Despite a strong pitching performance by LHP
Kevin Kernan (Mahopac, N.Y.), the Stony Brook baseball team fell to host UMBC 2-1 in 10 innings at Alumni Field on Saturday afternoon in the regular season finale.
Kernan allowed just one hit over the first eight innings with four strikeouts for the Seawolves (25-24, 12-10 AE), but the Retrievers (20-23, 11-9 AE) led off the bottom of the ninth inning with a solo home run and scored the winning run in the 10
th.
The victory lifted UMBC to the No. 2 seed in next week's America East Conference Tournament, while Stony Brook dropped to the No. 3 seed.
Sophomore RF
Dylan Resk (Ardsley, N.Y.) drove in the Seawolves' lone run with a single in the top of the eighth inning that broke the scoreless tie.
Turning Point
With no one out in the bottom of the ninth inning, UMBC's LF Raven Beeman homered to left centerfield to tie the game. The Retrievers then scored the winning run with three hits in the 10
th.
Notes
- Senior CF Toby Handley (Whitby, Ontario) singled on Saturday and has now reached base safely in 36 straight games.
- Handley extended his hit streak to 16 straight games with a hit on Saturday.

Stony Brook will be the No. 3 seed in next week's America East Conference Tournament and will face No. 6 seeded Hartford on Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. at LeLacheur Park in Lowell, Ma.
