LOWELL, Ma. – The Stony Brook baseball team opens the 2017 America East Conference championship as the No. 3 seed at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday when they face sixth-seeded Hartford at LeLacheur Park.
The Seawolves (25-24, 12-10 AE) enter the post season having won four of their final five games, including taking both games of a doubleheader against top-seeded Binghamton and second-seeded UMBC in each of the past two weekends. Hartford (20-28, 8-13 AE) enters the tournament having lost six straight games.
Scouting the Seawolves
- Stony Brook enters the tournament with a .275 team batting average and a 4.87 team ERA.
- Senior CF Toby Handley (Whitby, Ontario) became Stony Brook's career leader in triples two weeks ago and enters this series with 18 for his career and eight this season.
- Handley also sits second in career stolen bases with 53 and third in career walks with 116.
- Handley enters the tournament having reached base safely in 36 straight games, including a team-high 16-game hitting streak.
- Senior 1B Casey Baker (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) is tied for fourth in triples with 12, sits seventh in walks with 95, sixth in RBI with 129 and seventh with 32 stolen bases.
- Senior 2B Jeremy Giles (Claremont, Calif.) enters the tournament fourth in career walks at Stony Brook with 105.
- Sophomore RF Dylan Resk (Ardsley, N.Y.) is tied for fifth for home runs in a season at Stony Brook with his 12. Resk has the most home runs by a Seawolf since the 2012 season.
Stony Brook in the America East Tournament
Stony Brook enters the 2017 America East Conference championship looking for the programs' sixth title. This is the 15th appearnance (all but the 2005 season) in the tournament for the Seawolves, who own a 28-18 record. The Seawolves claimed tournament titles in 2004, 2008, 2010, 2012 and 2015.

Wednesday's winner will advance to face No. 2 seed UMBC at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday. The loser will turn around and play Wednesday at 7 p.m. in an elimination game against with No. 4 seed UAlbany or No. 5 seed Maine.
