Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Stony Brook drops contest vs. Boston College on Thursday night

STONY BROOK, N.Y. – Stony Brook women's soccer dropped a non-conference game vs. Boston College, 3-0, on Thursday evening at LaValle Stadium. With the loss, the Seawolves fall to 2-3-0 (0-0-0 AEC) in 2017.

Julie Johnstonbaugh (Neshanic, Station, N.J.) and Jordyn Klapper (Wantagh, N.Y.) each recorded two shots in the contest, while freshman goalkeeper Sofia Manner (Helsinki, Finland) made eight saves.

Quoting Head Coach Brendan Faherty
"We gave up a goal in the first five minutes [of the game] off a restart, and then we gave up a goal in the last five minutes of the half – the other 35 minutes I thought we did a lot of good things. But unfortunately in soccer, you've got to score goals... For us, it's a disappointing result. At times it was a good performance... I do think there were some bright spots, and I think there's definitely room to grow and learn from this game."

Final: Boston College 3, Stony Brook 0
  • Stony Brook tallied six shots in total, and attempted five corner kicks. The Seawolves now have 62 total shots so far in five games.
  • Johnstonbaugh now has three multi-shot games in 2017, while Klapper has two. Klapper had one of Stony Brook's best chances with just over 28 minutes left in the first half, ripping a shot just high of Boston College's net from the top of the box.
  • Manner now has 22 saves in the first four games of her collegiate career. She made a spectacular play on the ball with just over 30 minutes left in the second half, pouncing from the goal line to scoop up a loose ball and keep the Eagles off the board.
  • Jenna Bike scored the first goal just 5:24 into action, poking in a headed ball from Gianna Mitchel to make it 1-0 Eagles. Carly Leipzig scored at 40:37 to give the Eagles a two-goal lead, then Lauren Berman found the back of the net at 58:44 for Boston College's third tally of the night.
