Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Stony Brook falls short at home vs. Hofstra on Thursday night

STONY BROOK, N.Y – Stony Brook women's soccer fell vs. Hofstra, 1-0, on Thursday night at LaValle Stadium in non-conference action. With the loss, the Seawolves fall to 2-6-0 (0-0-0 AEC) so far in 2017.

Freshman goalkeeper Sofia Manner (Helsinki, Finland) made a career-high nine saves in the contest. Manner now has 35 total stops in 2017, and a .778 save percentage.

Quoting Head Coach Brendan Faherty
"I thought it was a spirited college soccer game between two local schools, a lot of players from Long Island on both teams. Overall, I thought they had one player (Kristin Desmond) that was a little bit more dangerous than our players on the field. She made the most of her opportunity, and unfortunately we weren't able to capitalize on our opportunities that we created."

Final: Hofstra 1, Stony Brook 0
  • Hofstra outshot the Seawolves 16-7 overall. Stony Brook recorded six shots in the second half, including a series of chances in the final two minutes of regulation. Kaitlin Loughren (Huntington, N.Y.), Julie Johnstonbaugh (Neshanic Station, N.J.) and Chelsie DePonte (Honolulu, Hawaii) all recorded a shot on net in the final moments.
  • Samantha Goodwin (Westbury, N.Y.) recorded a team-high two shots in the loss for Stony Brook.
  • Kristin Desmond netted the lone goal of the game, blasting a ball into the left side of the net from just above the box to make it 1-0 Hofstra at 52:34. Sabrina Bryan was credited with an assist on the play.
