Erdei scores late, Stony Brook plays to a draw vs. George Washington

STONY BROOK, N.Y. – Stony Brook men's soccer played to a 1-1 tie vs. George Washington on Tuesday night at LaValle Stadium. With the draw, the Seawolves move to 5-2-2 (0-0-0 AEC) so far in 2017.

Vince Erdei (Budapest, Hungary) scored his fifth goal of the season in the tie, connecting on a penalty kick in the 82nd minute to even the game and force overtime.

Quoting Head Coach Ryan Anatol
"I was a little disappointed in our first half, I don't think we played with enough intensity. We pride ourselves in competing and working hard... The second half was a lot better, I thought. Our intensity raised, our energy was higher and it was a much better half. I thought we were in their end for a large majority of [the half]."

Final: Stony Brook 1, George Washington 1
  • Oscar Haynes-Brown got George Washington on the board just 9:54 into action, heading in a free kick from Peirce Williams to make it 1-0.
  • Erdei tied the game 1-1 with just 8:35 remaining in the second half, belting a penalty kick into the back of the net for his fifth goal of 2017. The senior now has 19 career goals, which is tied for 10th all-time in program history.
  • Sophomore goalkeeper Jacob Braham (Cortlandt, N.Y.) made eight saves and allowed just one goal over 110 minutes of action. He now has a .765 save percentage in 2017.
