BALTIMORE, M.D. – Stony Brook women's basketball earned its fourth conference victory of the season, topping UMBC by the final score of 69-44 on Wednesday night at the RAC Center. With the win, the Seawolves improve to 12-10 (4-5 AE) so far in 2017-18.
Shania Johnson (Frederick, MD.) posted another impressive performance for the Seawolves, recording a game-high 27 points, four assists and three rebounds in the victory.

Highlights
- The Seawolves shot 21-of-52 (40.4 percent) from the floor in total, going 9-for-20 from 3-point range.
- Stony Brook knocked down a season-best 18 free throws, shooting 78.3 percent from the foul line.
- Jerell Matthews (Chicago, Ill.) added 14 points, five rebounds and four assists in the win. The junior has tallied double-digit point totals in seven of her last eight contests.
- Cheyenne Clark (Deptford, N.J.) recorded nine points and nine rebounds, going 5-of-5 from the charity stripe.
Notes
- Stony Brook outscored UMBC 15-4 in the first quarter of play. The Seawolves' defense surrendered just six points in the first 14-plus minutes of action, forcing the Retrievers to shoot just 25 percent (6-for-24) from the floor in the first half of play.
- UMBC shot 29.2 percent from the floor in total, the second-lowest shooting percentage Stony Brook has allowed in 2017-18.
- The Seawolves forced 20 turnovers in a contest for just the sixth time this season, recording 12 steals.
- Stony Brook is now 18-15 all-time vs. the Retrievers in the Division I era.
