BALTIMORE, Md. -- The Stony Brook women's soccer team was able to pull out the win at UMBC Thursday night, 1-0, after a lengthy lightning delay and battling pouring rain throughout the night. The Seawolves move to 9-6-1 on the year, 4-1-1 in league play, while the Retrievers now sit at 1-13-0, 0-5-0 in the America East.

Faherty's Reaction
"It's always good to go on the road, get a shutout and a win," said head coach Brendan Faherty. "I was impressed with UMBC on the attacking side of the ball, but credit to our team defending to keep them off the scoreboard.

"With the weather delay and the conditions of the field, I'm very happy with our student-athletes' ability to stay focused and finish the job. We will enjoy a weekend off and then will start preparing to play against another top side, Hartford, on Thursday at LaValle."

Highlights
- Senior Julie Johnstonbaugh (Neshanic Station, N.J.) got the Seawolves on the board in the 15th minute when she buried a pass from sophomore Kimmy Chavkin (Franklin, N.J.).
- The weather was a factor all night and created an issue with just over five minutes remaining in the first half as the game was delayed an hour due to lightning.
- Both teams returned to the field to finish the first half and took a quick break before beginning the second.
- Freshman Tatum Kauka (Wahiawa, Hawaii) took two attempts on goal in the 72nd minute, but was unable to get anything by the UMBC keeper.
- Sophomore Chelsie DePonte (Honolulu, Hawaii) tried to extend the lead in the 79th minute, but was denied as both teams struggled through the second half to get anything going due to the conditions.
