Seawolves Battle to Draw With No. 21 Fordham

BRONX, N.Y. -- The Stony Brook men's soccer team drew No. 21 Fordham on Tuesday night at Jack Coffey Field, 0-0. With the draw, the Seawolves move to 5-3-2 (2-0-0 AE) while Fordham now sits at 5-1-3 (1-0-0 A10).

Quoting Head Coach Ryan Anatol
"Tough game against a good opponent tonight. We started a little slowly but after the first 15 minutes we settled and created some really good opportunities," said Anatol. "Little disappointed after creating a goal late and having it disallowed in a bizarre manner and then having the weather impact the overtime.

Overall it was a positive performance and result, and now we will refocus and prepare for an important conference game on Saturday."

Highlights
  • Fordham took the first three shots of the night but was unable to get anything going early.
  • In the 21st minute, senior Serge Gamwanya (Trondheim, Norway) took a shot on goal but was stopped by Fordham keeper Rashid Nuhu. Gamwanya took three shots in a five-minute span but couldn't get the Seawolves on the board.
  • Both teams only mustered one shot on goal in the first half.
  • In the 47th minute, Fordham's Janos Loebe tried to give the Rams the lead but was denied by freshman keeper Christian Miesch (Brig, Switzerland). Miesch made four saves in his second consecutive shutout.
  • Gamwanya had another look at the goal in the 74th minute but his shot was saved by Nuhu.
  • In the 81st minute, the Seawolves initially scored but it was called off by the referees due to a confusing whistle during play.
  • The contest ended after regulation due to lightning in the area.
