BURLINGTON, VT. -- The Stony Brook men's soccer team dropped its first conference game of the season on Saturday night, falling to Vermont, 2-1 at Virtue Field.
With the loss, the Seawolves drop to 7-5-2 (4-1-0 AE) on the season. Vermont moves to 10-5-0 (3-2 AE).Â
Quoting Head Coach Ryan Anatol
"Though our overall performance was strong tonight and we dominated large periods of the game, we gave up two goals at really bad moments. A little bit of poor concentration and individual defending contributed to this," said Anatol. "We can't give up two goals and have to chase games and expect to get results, especially on the road.
"We dropped points tonight and only have ourselves to blame, but this disappointment will fuel us this week and we will be ready for our next opportunity."
HighlightsÂ
- Vermont got on the board quickly on a header from Jon Bryant in the second minute of the contest. It was Bryant's third goal of the season.
- The Seawolves took their first shot of the night in the 22nd minute when junior Jarred Dass (Marabella, Trinidad) missed wide.
- After Vermont took a few more shots in the next couple minutes, Dass drilled a one-timer past the Vermont keeper to tie the game at one apiece in the 38th minute. Freshman Jack Valderrabano (New York, N.Y.) picked up the assist.
- Just before the half, Vermont took the lead back on a goal from Jon Amar Barddal, which made the score 2-1.
- Early in the second half, Valderrabano nearly tied the contest up but Vermont keeper Aron Runarsson made the save. It was one of Runarsson's three saves in the match.
- Dass and senior Martieon Watson (Vessigny, Trinidad) both got shots off around the 70th minute but were unable to equalize.
- Despite the loss, the Seawolves still clinched a spot in the America East Men's Soccer Tournament. Their seed and opponent is to be determined.
