WEST HARTFORD, CONN. -- Five different Seawolves scored en route to a 6-0 victory over Hartford on Friday night from Al-Marzook Field.
With the win, the Seawolves (8-5-2, 5-1-0 AE) clinch at least a share of the America East Regular Season Title. They can win it outright with a victory over UMBC next week.
Quoting Head Coach Ryan Anatol
"Wonderful performance tonight. The guys showed a real determination to get the result and were really sharp right from the start of the game," said Anatol. "We moved the ball well and created some good opportunities and finished our chances. Also very pleased we were able to keep our concentration throughout the game and keep a shutout."
Highlights
- The Seawolves scored in the 10th minute of the contest on an own goal.
- In the 14th minute, senior Serge Gamwanya (Trondheim, Norway) doubled the lead when he drilled a direct kick from 22 yards out, over the arms of Hartford keeper Jimmy Slayton.
- Both teams exchanged shots for the next fifteen minutes until junior Jarred Dass (Marabella, Trinidad) put away a deflected shot to extend the Seawolves' lead to three. It was the fifth goal of the season for Dass.
- In the 34th minute, junior Gustavo Fernandes (West Babylon, N.Y.) headed a corner from Gamwanya into the net to put the Seawolves up by four.
- Just four minutes later, redshirt sophomore Gabriel Fernandes (North Babylon, N.Y.) got in on the action, scoring off an assist from senior Martieon Watson (Vessigny, Trinidad).
- The Seawolves outshot Hartford, 11-3 in the first half.
- In the 61st minute, Hartford's Aitor Elena tried to get the Hawks on the board with a header but his attempt was saved by freshman goalkeeper Christian Miesch (Brig, Switzerland). It was the only save of the night for Miesch, who was replaced by junior Jacob Braham (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) just ten minutes later.
- In the 87th minute, redshirt freshman Matias Prando (Yorktown, N.Y.) scored his first career-goal off an pass from redshirt sophomore Kevin Lozada (Plainview, N.Y.).
- The Seawolves six goals are the most in the Anatol-era and their most amount of goals in a game since 1995.
- Stony Brook can win the America East Regular Season Title outright with a win in its season finale.
