UNCASVILLE, Conn. – The Stony Brook men's basketball team lost its first game of the season on Friday night, falling to the Crusaders of Holy Cross 84-70 at the Mohegan Sun Arena.

Akwasi Yeboah (Chigwell, England) led the Seawolves with 20 points and sophomore G
Elijah Olaniyi (Newark, N.J.) added 19 on the night, but the Seawolves were not able to overcome a minus-six turnover differential on the night, dropping to 2-1 on the season.
BOALS' REACTION
"We wanted to win the battle on the boards, and we were not able to do that until late. We wanted to not turn the ball over against their pressure and we were not able to do that. Give Holy Cross credit. They are a good team but we did not do the things we needed to tonight."
HIGHLIGHTS
• Holy Cross jumped out early, scoring 20 of the game's first 27 points. The Crusaders forced five turnovers in the first 8:30, allowing them to earn the early advantage.
• Yeboah powered a run to cut the lead to 22-20, scoring eight points in a row. This included a pair of threes and a fadeaway jumper.
• The Crusaders took a seven-point lead into the half, scoring eight of the period's last 11 points to go up 43-36.
• Holy Cross extended its lead to 11 in the first four minutes of the half, getting three fast-break layups.
• The advantage grew as large as 20, with Holy Cross holding a 59-39 lead with 12:24 to play before the Seawolves started to chip away.
• After getting fouled on a three, Yeboah cashed in all three from the charity stripe to bring Holy Cross' lead down to 61-49, but 12 is as close the Seawolves would get the rest of the way.
NOTES
• Olaniyi recorded his 16th career double-digit scoring game and his seventh consecutive dating back to last season.
• Yeboah's effort is also his seventh consecutive going back to the 2017-18 season, bringing his career total to 41 games of 10 points or more. He now has 14 career games of 20-plus points.
• The Seawolves finished with just 12 turnovers on the night, splitting them with six in each half.
• Stony Brook was an efficient 20-for-24 from the free throw line on the night, equaling 83 percent.
