No. 1 Seawolves Set to Host No. 5 UMBC in America East Semifinal

STONY BROOK, N.Y. -- The Stony Brook men's soccer team (8-3-5, 5-1-1 AE) will take on UMBC on Wednesday, Nov. 7 at 7 p.m. from LaValle Stadium in the America East Semifinal. The Seawolves are looking to clinch a bid in the America East Championship Game for the first time since 2011.

Last Time Out
  • Stony Brook concluded regular-season play against UMBC on Oct. 31, drawing the Retrievers, 2-2.
  • Juniors Jarred Dass (Marabella, Trinidad) and Mark Irvine (Southampton, England) both scored in the draw.
Scouting UMBC
  • The Retrievers finished the regular season at 9-5-3 (3-3-1 AE), losing only once since Sept. 29.
  • UMBC topped No. 4 Vermont in a PK shootout in the America East Quarterfinal.
  • Sophomores Matt Bailey and Cesare Marconi both have five goals this season, tying for the team-lead.
  • Quantrell Jones has tallied most of the minutes in net for the Retrievers, starting each of their last nine contests. The freshman owns a .780 save percentage.
  • Retrievers' head coach Pete Caringi is in his 28th season at the helm. He is currently 292-176-74 in his career in Baltimore County.
  • UMBC was picked fifth in the America East preseason poll.
America East Regular Season Champs
  • The Seawolves are the 2018 America East Regular Season champions following a 5-1-1 conference record. They finished three points ahead of second-place finisher, UNH. 
Offensive Pressure
  • Stony Brook has scored 25 goals this season, tied for second-most in the America East.
America East All-Conference Awards
Stony Brook took home eleven all-conference awards, as announced by the league office on Friday afternoon.
  • Senior midfielder Martieon Watson (Vessigny, Trinidad) was named America East Midfielder of the Year. He was also named to the All-Conference First Team and the All-Academic Team.
  • Freshman goalkeeper Christian Miesch was selected America East Rookie of the Year. He was also a member of the All-Conference Second Team along with the All-Rookie Team.
  • Senior midfielder Serge Gamwanya (Trondheim, Norway) and junior striker Jarred Dass (Marabella, Trinidad) were named to the All-Conference First Team.
  • Junior defender Gustavo Fernandes (West Babylon, N.Y.) was named to the All-Conference Second Team.
  • Freshman midfielder Jack Valderrabano (New York, N.Y.) was selected to the All-Rookie Team.
  • The coaching staff, led by head coach Ryan Anatol, was named America East Coaching Staff of the Year.
In The Ranks
  • Watson's seven assists are good for second in the America East.
  • Dass and Gamwanya are tied for third in the conference with six goals apiece.
  • Miesch ranks fourth in the America East in shutouts with four.
