Seawolves Drop Tough Game to Toledo, 80-48

TOLEDO, Ohio – The Stony Brook women's basketball team came out strong against Toledo, but couldn't keep up in the second half as the Seawolves fell to the Rockets, 80-48, at the John F. Savage Arena on Tuesday night. The result snaps the team's 10-game win streak that dated back to the home opener against Hofstra on Nov. 13.

McCOMBS REACTION
"I thought we threw the first punch tonight against Toledo and they came right back at us and never let up. We allowed their defensive pressure to bother us and we couldn't get into our stuff. Defensively I was disappointed in our overall effort which must improve for us to compete at the level we want to."

HIGHLIGHTS
  • Stony Brook came out red-hot at the start, running out to a 12-4 lead after scoring 10 unanswered in the first quarter.
  • Six of those points in that run came from redshirt sophomore F Oksana Gouchie-Provencher (Montreal, Canada) as she nailed back-to-back threes en route to eight total points in the game's first 11 minutes.
  • After leading for a moment early on, Toledo reclaimed its lead late in the second quarter after going on a 7-0 run and went into halftime with a 29-27 advantage.
  • The Rockets were nearly unstoppable in the entire second half, outscoring the Seawolves by a margin of 51-21 and shooting 80 percent in the fourth quarter.
NOTES

  • Gouchie-Provencher put up impressive numbers on the night with 13 points, five rebounds, four blocks, three assists and one steal.
  • Cherry recorded career highs in points (11) and assists (4).
