Freshman Michael Palazzolo's single in the 9th inning lifts the Seawolves over Nicholls

 THIBODAUX, LA. – Freshman SS Michael Palazzolo's (Dix Hills, N.Y.) first collegiate hit, a single into left field with one out in the top of the ninth inning, scored sophomore RF Chris Hamilton (Schenectady, N.Y.) and broke the tie that lifted the Stony Brook baseball team to a 5-4 victory over Nicholls State on Saturday night at Didier Field.
 
Redshirt sophomore RHP Aaron Glickstein (Dix Hills, N.Y.) picked up his first career victory on the mound, while senior RHP Aaron Pinto (West Covina, Calif.) threw a scoreless ninth to close the game and earn his fifth career save and second in as many games.

Turning Point 
After Nicholls tied the game a 4-4 with solo home runs in each the seventh and eighth innings, Stony Brook's freshman SS Michael Palazzolo came to the plate with one out and sophomore RF Chris Hamilton at second base and drove the first pitch he saw into left field. Hamilton scored on a bang-bang play at the plate to give the Seawolves a 5-4 lead.

Notes/Stats
  • Stony Brook opened the season 2-0 for the first time since 2012 when the squad won the first four games of the year, including a pair of wins over Nicholls.
  • Junior DH Michael Russell (Staten Island, N.Y.) drove in two runs with his first Stony Brook hit.  
  • Freshman SS Michael Palazzolo's first collegiate hit drove in the game winning run in the 9th inning.
  • Junior RHP Bret Clarke (Royersford, Pa.) returned to the mound following a late season injury in 2017 and tossed 4.0 scoreless innings in the start.
  • Sophomore CF Michael Wilson (Colonia, N.J.) recorded a pair of hits.
  • Junior LF Dylan Resk (Ardsley, N.Y.) collected two hits and an RBI.
  • Sophomore RHP Aaron Glickstein picked up his first career victory.
  • Senior RHP Aaron Pinto earned his fifth career save and second in as many games.
