Wilson and Gazzola Homer to Help the Seawolves Over Binghamton in the Conference Opener

STONY BROOK, N.Y.  – Sophomore RF Michael Wilson (Colonia, N.J.) drove in five runs with three hits and senior LF Andruw Gazzola (Coram, N.Y.) returned to the lineup with three hits to lead the Seawolves to a 15-12 win over America East Conference rival Binghamton in game one of Saturday afternoon at Joe Nathan Field.
 
Game two was suspended after the eighth inning tied 6-6 and will resume on Sunday at Noon.
 
Wilson and Gazzola also each homer in the game, while junior CF Cristian Montes (Pacioma, Calif.) drove in three runs.
 
Senior RHP Aaron Pinto (West Covina, Calif.) got the win with a 2.0 innings of relief work.

Game One Turning Point ?
After Binghamton jumped to a 3-0 lead entering the bottom the third inning, Stony Brook plated five runs in the bottom of the third and four more in bottom of the fourth to take a lead. The Bearcats clawed back to take a 12-10 lead entering the bottom of the eight inning, but the Seawolves scored five runs to take the lead for good. Wilson's two-run homer in the inning tied the score before Stony Brook scored three more.

  • Stony Brook recorded five doubles in game one of Saturday and has now hit 41 this season.
  • Senior RHP Aaron Pinto (West Covina, Calif.) tossed 2.0 innings and allowed one unearned run for his first victory of the season.
  • Sophomore RF Michael Wilson (Colonia, Calif.) recorded his eighth multi-hit game of the season and his second three-hit game. He also drove in a career-best five runs.
  • Wilson homered for the first time this season and the sixth of his career.  
  • Sophomore SS Nick Grande (Smithtown, N.Y.) had two hits for his third multi-hit game of the season.
  • Senior LF Andruw Gazzola (Coram, N.Y.) returned to the starting for the first time this season following a hand injury. He recorded his first multi-hit game with three hits.
  • Gazzola hit his 10th career triple and is now tied for eighth on Stony Brook's career list.
  • Gazzola homered for the first time this season and the third of his career.
  • Junior OF Cristian Montes (Pacioma, Calif.) collected two hits in game one and now has three multi-hit games this season. He also drove in a career-best three runs.

Stony Brook and Binghamton will complete the three-game series on Sunday at Joe Nathan Field. Following the completion of the suspended game two that will resume at 12 p.m.
