Nick Grande (Smithtown, N.Y.) to take an early lead, the Stony Brook baseball team dropped the series opening game to top-ranked Florida, 12-5, on Friday night at McKethan Stadium.
The Seawolves' (6-2) five runs in the game were the most that the Gators (10-1) have allowed this season. Stony Brook also belted out 11 hits, including two each off the bats of junior C

Turning Point ?
After Florida jumped out to a 3-0 lead, Stony Brook didn't roll over and scored two runs in the top of the third inning and then took a lead, 5-3, on back-to-back home runs by junior LF

"I'm proud of the way we competed from pitch one. However, if you're going to beat the number one team in the nation you've got to execute to the final out. We will need to do a better job with that the remainder of the series."

- Junior LF Dylan Resk (Ardsley, N.Y.) homered for the first time this season and the 16th of his career with a two-run shot in the fourth inning. He finished the game with two hits.
- Sophomore SS Nick Grande (Smithtown, N.Y.) hit is first home run of the season and second of his career. It was back-to-back with Resk in the fourth inning.
- Junior CF Cristian Montes (Pacoima, Calif.) singled to extend his hitting streak to six straight games.
- Junior C Sean Buckhout (West Nyack, N.Y.) collected two hits and has hit safely in six straight games.
- Sophomore RF Michael Wilson (Colonia, N.Y.) doubled to open the game and has now hit safely is seven straight games. He finished the game with two hits.
