Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Stony Brook Battles at No. 1 Albany

ALBANY, N.Y. -- The Stony Brook men's lacrosse team kept things close for much of the afternoon but was unable to come out on top, falling at No. 1 Albany, 13-7. A three-goal rally for the Great Danes to close out the third quarter would be the deciding factor as the Seawolves suffered their first loss in league play. Stony Brook is now 3-6 on the year, 2-1 in conference play, while Albany sits at 10-0, 3-0 in the America East.

Nagle's Reaction
"It was a tough league loss today," said head coach Jim Nagle. "We fought hard and I am confident that our team will continue to improve through adversity."

Highlights
- Albany jumped out to a 4-0 lead to set the tone early on, but freshman Mike McCannell (Orangeville, Ontario) got the Seawolves on the board before the end of the opening quarter.
- McCannell struck again in the opening minutes of the second quarter, countering an early goal from the Great Danes and sparking a three-goal spree for Stony Brook.
- Sophomore Chris Pickel, Jr., (Bayport, N.Y.) put away a pass from freshman Jack Walsh (Miller Place, N.Y.) minutes later and McCannell added his third of the day to get the Seawolves within one midway through the second quarter.
- Sophomore Tom Haun (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) spun in front of the cage and went low to put away one more for Stony Brook before the break on a pass from freshman Patrick Kaschalk (Windsor, Ontario), but Albany was able make it 8-5 at halftime.
- Production slowed for both teams in the second half. Sophomore Wayne White (Huntington, N.Y.) got the difference back to two goals with just over eight minutes to play in the third quarter, but Albany responded with three straight goals to distance itself.
- Kaschalk struck again early in the fourth quarter to try and get things going for Stony Brook but Albany added two more to seal the outcome.

Notes
- McCannell notched the first hat trick of his career and just the second multi-goal game through seven appearances in his debut season.
- Sophomore Michael Bollinger (Holbrook, N.Y.) played the full 60 minutes in cage, notching his third double-digit save game of the season with 10 on the day.
- It was an impressive defensive effort from the Seawolves, holding Albany below its offensive averages. Junior Ryland Rees (Port Coquitlam, B.C.) and freshman Danny Cassidy (Wading River, N.Y.) led the unit with three caused turnovers apiece as the Great Danes committed 16 turnovers on the day.

Up Next
