STONY BROOK, N.Y. – Junior 1B
Brandon Alamo (Artesia, Calif.) and junior LF
Dylan Resk (Ardsley, N.Y.) each drove in two runs to lead the Stony Brook baseball team to a 4-3 victory over visiting Manhattan in the 2018 home opener at Joe Nathan Field on Tuesday afternoon.
Resk's two-out, two-run double in the bottom of the sixth inning provided the difference and gave the Seawolves (7-4) back the lead. Alamo broke a scoreless tie with a two-run single in the bottom of the fourth.
Tuesday's starting pitcher, senior LHP
Kevin Kernan (Mahopac, N.Y.) allowed just one hit in four shutout innings of work, while freshman RHP
Nick Insognia (Niskayuna, N.Y.) picked up his first career victory with 2.0 innings of relief work. Fellow freshman RHP
Brian Morrisey (Commack, N.Y.) tossed 1.2 scoreless innings before senior RHP
Aaron Pinto (West Covina, Calif.) threw the final 1.1 for his NCAA leading fifth save of the season.
Turning Point
Manhattan took a 3-2 lead with a run in the top of the sixth inning, but Stony Brook battled back to score two in the bottom of the sixth when Resk sent a two-out pitch into the left field corner that scored sophomore SS
Nick Grande (Smithtown, N.Y.) and Alamo.
Quoting head coach Matt Senk
"For what ever reason we seemed to be out of our approach and over aggressive today, but Dylan had a good at-bat and came up with a really big swing for us to take the lead.
Brian Morrisey threw the ball well for us and (Aaron) Pinto was Pinto and doing what he has done for us all year."
