Timely Hitting and Effective Pitching Lead Seawolves Over Iona

STONY BROOK, N.Y.  – Stony Brook baseball scored five runs on just six hits and thanks to solid pitching performances, the Seawolves were able to get past visiting Iona 5-2 on Tuesday afternoon at Joe Nathan Field.

Senior LHP Kevin Kernan (Mahopac, N.Y.) started, went 3.0 innings and allowed no runs on three hits with three strikeouts and earned the victory. Sopohmore RHP Sam Turcotte (Toronto, Ontario) and senior LHP Cole Creighton (Levittown, Pa.) also had effective outings on the mound and freshman RHP Connor Clark (Manorville, N.Y.) earned the save with a scoreless ninth inning of work.

Freshman C John Tuccillo (Clinton Corners, N.Y.) had two of Stony Brook's (18-12) hits and drove in a pair of runs.

Turning Point
It didn't take Stony Brook long to get on the board with a run in the bottom of the first inning when freshman C John Tuccillo (Clinton Corners, N.Y.) singled and came around to score on a base hit by junior LF Brandon Alamo (Artesia, Calif.). The Seawolves then held the lead throughout the game.

Quoting Head Coach Matt Senk
"This was a solid win. We continued to do some good things in all area. We did positive things at the plate, on the mound and base running and defensively."
