STONY BROOK, N.Y. -- First-year Wide Receivers coach
Darren Paige will send an arsenal of explosive weapons onto the field in 2018.
Â
The corps of pass catchers is led by senior and four year starter
Donavin Washington (Glendora, Calif./Charter Oak). The Southern California native makes an impact at all three WR positions and has been a weapon on special teams as a kick and punt returner. Over his career, Washington has collected 99 receptions for a total of 969 receiving yards, 1,467 total yards to go along with four touchdowns. His leadership will be a key ingredient for a group that graduated its top two pass catchers from 2017.
Â
"This team has everything it takes to be successful," Washington stated emphatically. "We are working towards being great every day, and this year is going to be special."
Â
Another west coast product, junior
Nick Anderson (Lakewood, Calif./Lakewood), proved to be a reliable target in 2017 as he collected 15 catches for 216 yards. Anderson's ability to threaten and stretch defenses vertically was evident in 2017 as he hauled in two receptions that went for over 40 yards. That role will be invaluable to an offense that looks to build off of 2017's explosiveness.
Â
Junior
Andrew Trent (Bellport, N.Y./Bellport) has made a name for himself as a playmaker on special teams over his career, seeing action in 22 total games. He figures to make a larger impact at receiver in 2018 after increased production at the end of 2017, including a career high in receiving yards in Stony Brook's first round playoff win over Lehigh.
Â
Also returning to the gridiron is fifth year senior
Julius Wingate (Englewood, N.J./Dwight Morrow) who after red shirting in 2017 looks to finish up his career at Stony Brook in a major way.Â
Â
After a very productive spring, Temple transfer
Marshall Ellick (Richmond, Va./Monacan) is focused on creating big plays for the Seawolves and big problems for CAA Football defenses. While earning his undergraduate degree at Temple, the 6'2 205lb Ellick collected 22 receptions for 234 total yards.Â
Â
Younger players who are poised to make an impact are sophomore
Seba Nekhet (Brooklyn, N.Y./Fort Hamilton), freshman
Jahquel Webb (Brooklyn, N.Y./Erasmus Hall) and freshman
Delante Hellams Jr. (Washington D.C./Dematha).Â
Â
The wide receiver position at Stony Brook is loaded with a dynamic group of athletes. Collectively it is defined by both experience and extraordinary potential. The way both situations come together will go a long way in determining the level of success Stony Brook achieves offensively this coming season.
