Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Seawolves Fall to Hofstra

STONY BROOK, N.Y. -- The Stony Brook men's soccer team was defeated by Hofstra on Wednesday night, 2-1 at LaValle Stadium.

Quoting Head Coach Ryan Anatol
"We knew they were going to come out and be direct and very physical, so we knew that was something we had to match. I thought we started off a little slow, but other than that I thought we matched them," said Anatol. "We were a little bit rushed in our possessions, but overall I thought the performance was pretty solid."

Highlights
  • After an uneventful first seven minutes, Hofstra took the first shot of the night but missed high.
  • The Seawolves and Pride exchanged shots throughout a chippy first half of play until juniors Mark Irvine (Southampton, England) and Jarred Dass (Marabella, Trinidad) both took shots on goal in the 32nd minute but were denied by Hofstra keeper Alex Ashton. Ashton made four saves on the night.
  • Early in the second half, Stony Brook and Hofstra both picked up yellow cards. There were six total yellows in the contest.
  • In the 77th minute, Hofstra got on the board when George O'Malley scored on a relay off a throw in.
  • Pride forward Matthew Vowinkel doubled Hofstra's lead with a bicycle kick goal off a corner kick in the 84th minute. It was Vowinkel's third goal of the season.
  • Hofstra outshot the Seawolves, 13-11.
