NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. -- The Stony Brook women's soccer team made it back-to-back shutout victories after earning a 4-0 win over Iona at Mazzella Field Wednesday afternoon. Sophomore Rachel Florenz put away two goals in the final nine minutes of play to notch the lopsided victory. The Seawolves move to 4-4 on the season, while Iona now sits as 2-6.

Faherty's Reaction
"It's always good to score goals, record a shutout and secure a win on the road," said head coach Brendan Faherty. "As a group, we are happy to get another road win and improve to 4-4 on the season. It's also great to have different players step up and make plays all over the field.

"All season, but specifically in the last two matches, we have been able to show the depth of our squad, which we believe will help us as we head into America East play in another 10 days. The group will enjoy a much-deserved day off tomorrow and then on Friday morning our attention turns to our Long Island rival, Hofstra."

Highlights
- Sophomore Fanny Gotesson (Varnamo, Sweden) got things going for the Seawolves in the 23rd minute when she dribbled the ball half the length of the field to beat the Iona keeper and send her shot into the lower right side of the net.
- Things remained close through the first half as the Seawolves took a 1-0 lead and 5-4 shooting edge into the break.
- In the 58th minute, senior Julie Johnstonbaugh (Neshanic Station, N.J.) was tripped up inside the box and Stony Brook was awarded a penalty kick on the foul. Sophomore Alyssa Francese (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) stepped up and buried her second PK of the year for the 2-0 lead.
- Sophomore Rachel Florenz (East Islip, N.Y.) extended the lead with two goals in the final nine minutes of play. Freshman Mari Brenden (Oslo, Norway) slipped a pass through the defense to set up Florenz in the 82nd minute, before sophomore Sophia Morell (Berlin, Conn.) set up her classmate to strike from the 18 to make it 4-0.

Up Next
