Seawolves Set to Open Conference Play in Albany

STONY BROOK, N.Y -- The Stony Brook men's soccer team opens conference play on Friday, Sept. 21 at 7 p.m. when it travels to Albany. The Seawolves are coming off a come-from-behind victory last Saturday over Bryant, where they scored two second-half goals to secure the 2-1 win.

Seawolves Notes
  • Senior Serge Gamwanya (Trondheim, Norway) is coming off a week that saw him win his second straight America East Offensive Player of the Week Award. He has scored four of the Seawolves' last five goals, including Saturday's game-winner.
  • Junior Gustavo Fernandes (West Babylon, N.Y.) scored his second goal of the season on Saturday night on an assist from senior Martieon Watson (Vessigny, Trinidad).
  • Junior Jacob Braham (Cortlandt, N.Y.) is coming off his season debut against Bryant, where he picked up two saves in the victory.
  • Stony Brook holds a 19-21-5 record against Albany, dating back to their first contest in 1967.
  • This is the first of seven regular-season conference games the Seawolves will play this season. They went 1-3-3 last year in America East play.
  • Stony Brook (16 points) was tabbed sixth in the America East preseason poll, just ahead of Hartford (12 points) and Binghamton (11 points). UMass Lowell (44 points), New Hampshire (42 points) and Albany (40 points) finished atop the poll heading into the new season.
Scouting Albany
  • The Great Danes come into Friday with a 3-4 record this season after falling to Quinnipiac, 2-1 (OT) on Saturday.
  • Seniors Nico Solabarrieta and Carlos Clark lead Albany with three goals apiece.
  • Redshirt senior Danny Vitiello has logged every minute in net for the Great Danes this season, owning a .676 save percentage.
  • Albany is coached by Trevor Gorman, who is in his eighth season at the helm and holds a 62-64-19 record.
  • The Great Danes traveled to LaValle last season where they drew the Seawolves, 0-0.
