Stony Brook Dominates in Draw with Siena

LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. -- The Stony Brook men's soccer team drew Siena on Saturday afternoon at Siena Turf Field, 1-1.

With the draw, the Seawolves move to 2-2-1 on the season. In the contest, senior Serge Gamwanya (Trondheim, Norway) scored his third goal this week after scoring twice against St. Joseph's.

Quoting Head Coach Ryan Anatol
"Overall it was a strong performance, we wanted to carry the game and dominate play. We created over 20 shots and double digit corners which shows we were able to do that," said Anatol. "But we were not sharp enough defensively at the beginning of the game, or in front of the goal and that was the difference between earning a win and a tie today. As we look towards Hofstra on Wednesday, we will be more focused in these areas and work on putting together a complete performance."

Highlights
  • Stony Brook took the first four shots of the game but was unable to score early.
  • After a quiet first 30 minutes, Siena got on the board when Linus Johansson found the back of the net to give the Saints a 1-0 lead.
  • In the 42nd minute, junior Kyle Honor (South Setauket, N.Y.) found Gamwanya, who blasted a goal from ten yards out to tie the game.
  • In the 60th minute, Siena's Aaron Martin attempted a header shot but was denied by freshman Christian Miesch (Brig, Switzerland).
  • The Seawolves got two shots off in the 85th minute but couldn't convert.
  • Gamwanya and freshman Jack Valderrabano (New York, N.Y.) both had shots on goal in overtime but Siena keeper Greg Monroe was able to stop them.
  • Stony Brook outshot Siena, 21-10 in the draw.
