Seawolves Wrap Up Action at Stony Brook Tri-Meet

STONY BROOK, N.Y. – The Stony Brook swimming and diving team came away with a victory on Saturday as the Seawolves hosted Adelphi and Iona at the University Pool for a tri-meet. Stony Brook topped Adelphi, 200.50-79.50, and fell to Iona, 174-113.

"Being our first meet since the beginning of December, I was very pleased. The team has been training well and brought a great energy to the deck today. It was a great way to start 2019!"

HIGHLIGHTS
  • In the pool, Stony Brook notched two individual wins and two relay wins.
  • Individually, Sara Chin (Long Beach, Calif.) won the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:08.81 and Jess Salmon (Rexford, N.Y.) touched the wall first in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:27.90.
  • The 200 medley relay team of Yurika Tomita (New York, N.Y.) , Chin, Salmon and Michelle Wootton (Oakdale, N.Y.) got the victory in 1:51.40 and the 400 free relay squad of Wootton, Emma Waechter (Lewiston, N.Y.), Gabrielle Matiszik (Milwaukee, Wis.) and Chin combined for a winning time of 3:44.12.
  • In addition, the Seawolves tallied seven other top-three finishes on the day in swimming events.
  • Runner-up finishes included Ava DeMayo (New York, N.Y.) in the 100 breaststroke (1:10.79), Salmon in the 200 butterfly (2:15.77), Wootton in the 50 free (25.06), Caroline Dunn (Brookeville, Md.) in the 200 backstroke (2:12.49) and Chin in the 200 breaststroke (2:28.00).
  • Third-place finishes came from Dunn in the 100 back (1:02.04) and Salmon in the 200 IM (2:17.70).
  • On the 1-meter diving board, Stephanie Reiter (Howard Beach, N.Y.) won the event with 161.55 points, Noelle Perrone (Merrick, N.Y.) was second with 154.58 and Valerie Reiter (Howard, Beach, N.Y.) was third with 141.98.
  • On the 3-meter, Perrone was first with 164.33 points, Valerie Reiter was second (155.80) and Stephanie Reiter was third (145.58).
UP NEXT
Stony Brook travels to New Hampshire next week, taking on the Wildcats on Sunday, Jan. 20. Action begins at 11 am.
