STONY BROOK, N.Y. – Currently riding a five-game winning streak and winners of all three of its America East contests, the Stony Brook men's basketball team travels to the northernmost destination in the league, taking on Maine Saturday afternoon at the Cross Insurance Center.

The Seawolves are coming off a 62-44 winning decision a week ago, taking down New Hampshire to remain unbeaten in the conference. Sophomore Elijah Olaniyi (Newark, N.J.) led four double-figure scorers for the Seawolves with 15 points. 11 of those came in the second 20 minutes of play as Stony Brook ballooned a five-point halftime deficit as high as 24. Freshman Miles Latimer (Fairfax, Va.) recorded his first-career double double with 11 points and 14 rebounds.

THE OPPONENT
Maine is entering Saturday afternoon's contest at 1-3 in the America East after a one-point loss to Hartford Wednesday night, as the Hawks hit a pair of free throws with 0.5 seconds left to win 77-76.

Vincent Eze shot 8-for-11 from the field, scoring 18 points on the night, while Andrew Fleming recorded a double double, scoring 10 points and grabbing 14 boards.

Isaiah White leads the Black Bears in the scoring department as one of three double-figure scorers, averaging 14.4 per contest. Fleming leads the team on the boards, grabbing 6.9 rebounds per night.

Maine is inside the Top 50 nationally in steals (30th) and assists (49th). Fleming is third in the country in total minutes, playing over 703 on the campaign.

THE SERIES
This will be the 41st all-time meeting between the Seawolves and Black Bears in a series that dates back to the 1970-71 season. Stony Brook has won each of the last 16 meetings between the schools, winning both matchups last year by a combined four points.

DEFENSIVELY DOMINANT
Three games into the conference season, the Seawolves lead the America East in five defensive categories, including overall KenPom defensive efficiency. After three games of the 2019 America East schedule, the Seawolves currently lead the league in points against, allowing just 51 points per game in three conference contests, more than four points less than second-place Vermont.

LET'S GO STREAKING
For the second time this season, Stony Brook has accumulated five consecutive wins thanks to back to back America East victories this past week against Binghamton and New Hampshire. In addition to its current streak, Stony Brook has won five of its last six America East regular season contests and 16 consecutive games against Maine.

NO, NO, NO-TCHERE
Sophomore Jeff Otchere (Bronx, N.Y.) blocked seven Binghamton shots on Wednesday night, including five in the first half of the Seawolves' win over the Bearcats. That is the fourth-most blocks by a Seawolves player in the team's Division I history. The Bronx, N.Y. native is one of 24 players in the country to have recorded seven blocks in a game this season, with the NCAA-high being 10.

DEFENSE WINS CHAMPIONSHIPS
The Seawolves held Binghamton and New Hampshire to 46 and 44 points respectively, marking the first time since the 2012-13 season in which Stony Brook held back to back opponents under the 50-point threshold. In that defensive contest, the Bearcats scored just 15 points in the first half thanks to the Seawolves defense, the lowest first-half total for an America East team since Albany held UMBC to 12 last season.

DOUBLE THE FUN
Redshirt-junior Akwasi Yeboah (Chigwell, England) recorded his fourth double-double of the season and 10th of his career last Wednesday, scoring 13 points and grabbing 13 rebounds in the win over Binghamton. The England native has scored double figures in 16 of his 17 appearances this season and eclipsed the 20-point mark in seven games this year. Also joining the fun is freshman Miles Latimer (Fairfax, Va.), who recorded his first career double-double against New Hampshire with 11 points and 14 rebounds on the night.

SHOOTERS SHOOT
Freshman Miles Latimer (Fairfax, Va.) has provided a shooting spark to the Seawolves offense, firing at a 42.5 percent clip from beyond the arc. That number would be good for top of the league, but the Fairfax, Va. native is eight makes short of the qualification of 2.5 per game. He has also been getting it done at the free throw line during this streak of nine double-figure scoring games in a row (and counting), making 83.4 percent of his attempts from the charity stripe since the start of December.

PERFECTION
Sophomore Andrew Garcia (Harlem, N.Y.) made Stony Brook program history at Northern Iowa, making all nine of his shots en route to a career-high 24 points. That is the most makes without a miss in basketball history, besting Jameel Warney's 8-for-8 outing during the 2012 season. He is one of 18 players in the country this season to attempt nine or more shots and make them all and is one of nine players to go exactly 9-for-9 in a game.

UP NEXT
Stony Brook begins a week of perennial conference powers on Wednesday night, heading to the Capital District to take on Albany at 7 p.m. at SEFCU Arena.
