STONY BROOK, N.Y. – The Stony Brook men's basketball team plays its first home conference game on Wednesday night, hosting the Bearcats of Binghamton in a SUNY matchup at Island Federal Arena.

The Seawolves opened their America East competition with a 75-63 win over UMass Lowell on Saturday afternoon. Redshirt junior Akwasi Yeboah (Chigwell, England) led Stony Brook with 19 points in his return to action, while freshman Miles Latimer (Fairfax, Va.) scored 13 of his 16 in the second half to help power Stony Brook to the win.

THE OPPONENT
The Bearcats enter their second game coming off a win against New Hampshire, 69-58, on Wednesday night at the Events Center in Vestal, N.Y. Freshman Sam Sessoms was named the league's Rookie of the Week honors after pouring in 21 points and grabbing five rebounds in the win. Caleb Stewart added 15 points, six rebounds and four steals.

On the year, Sessoms is the team's leading scorer at 17.7 points per game on 45.8 percent shooting from the field. J.C. Show is seven points away from the 1,000 mark for his career, averaging 10.6 per night. Binghamton is ranked second nationally with 95 total blocks on the season and sit sixth in blockers per game. Stewart is 19th in the country with 35 blocks on the season.

THE SERIES
The Seawolves have won 40 of the 67 overall meetings against Binghamton in a series that dates back to the 1962-63 season when Binghamton was known as Harpur College. The team's split last year's meeting, with the home teams winning each contest.

SHOOTERS SHOOT
Freshman Miles Latimer (Fairfax, Va.) has provided a shooting spark to the Seawolves offense, firing at a 44.2 percent clip from beyond the arc. That number would be good for top of the league, but the Fairfax, Va. native is six makes short of the qualification of 2.5 per game. He has also been getting it done at the free throw line during this streak of nine double-figure scoring games in a row (and counting), making 84.2 percent of his attempts from the charity stripe since the start of December.

3 > 2
The recent uptick on offense has been aided by a long-ball assault for the Seawolves. As a team, Stony Brook has made 40 threes in its last five games, making them at a 39.2 percent clip. Overall, Stony Brook is shooting 35.8 percent from beyond the 20.75-foot arc, leading the America East in that category.

PERFECTION
Sophomore Andrew Garcia (Harlem, N.Y.) made Stony Brook program history Saturday night, making all nine of his shots en route to a career-high 24 points. That is the most makes without a miss in basketball history, besting Jameel Warney's 8-for-8 outing during the 2012 season. Garcia made eight of his shots in the second half as the Seawolves pulled ahead by double figures, leading to a 10-point win at Northern Iowa to close the non-conference season.

HELP ME, HELP You
Senior Jaron Cornish (Abaco, Bahamas) enters conference play inside the top five in two passing categories in the America East. He currently leads the league in assist to turnover ratio at 1.9, tied with three other guards in the league. Abaco's Own is also averaging 3.6 assists per game, good for fifth in the league and is on pace to beat his 77 last season.

CRAZY YOUNGSTERS
Stony Brook's "Experience" according to KenPom is 1.22, or the second-youngest team in the America East and inside the Top 50 for youngest teams in the country. The youngsters came up big in Iowa, with freshman Jules Moor (Houston, Texas) scoring 14 points, grabbing seven rebounds and recording four steals, while classmate Miles Latimer (Fairfax, Va.) finished the night with 11 points and eight rebounds.

BOARD BULLIES
Entering Thursday's action, the Seawolves ranked 10th in the country in total rebounds with 643 on the season, averaging 40.2 per game. Both numbers lead the conference, as does the team's 7.0 rebounding margin. The team is rebounding 34.9 percent of its own shots, ranking 30th in the country in offensive rebounding percentage, according to KenPom.

BREAKING RECORDS
Stony Brook won its 12th non-conference game on Sunday afternoon and has now set a new D1 record for most non-conference wins in a single season in program history. The Seawolves last won 12 non-conference games in the 1990-91 season when they won the Skyline Conference after going 23-4 and 9-1 in conference play.

NO-TCHERE
Sophomore Jeff Otchere (Bronx, N.Y.) has blocked multiple shots in six of his last eight outings, averaging 2.1 per game entering this week. He is tied for the league lead with 33 on the season. According to KenPom, his block percentage is 14.6 percent, ranking 4th in the country.

CARDIAC SEAWOLVES
Of Stony Brook's 13 wins this season, only two have come by more than 10 points. Along with that, Stony Brook has completed a pair of second-half comebacks in which they were down by double figures, including a 12-point rally against LIU Brooklyn. Under Coach Boals, the Seawolves have completed eight second-half comebacks in which they were down by double digits.
