STONY BROOK, N.Y. -- Freshman goalkeeper
Edmond Kaiser (Karlsuhe, Germany) picked up his first career shutout en route to a 1-0 victory over Fordham on Tuesday night from LaValle Stadium. The Seawolves improve to 3-6-1 (0-1-0 AE) while Fordham drops to 3-6-1 (2-0-0 A-10).
Quoting head coach Ryan Anatol
"I am very happy for the guys. It was not easy after playing really well on Saturday and not getting the result and then having another quick turnaround. But they showed how resilient they are. Tonight we had some moments where we moved the ball and created good chances and also had moments where we had to dig in and fight. But they got the reward for their work. Now we turn our attention to UNH and look forward to going up there on Friday."
Highlights
- The first half of the contest was a defensive battle, with Fordham taking the only shot on goal. Kaiser picked up his first save of the night on a shot by Paul Makaj in the 12th minute.
- The Seawolves got three shots off in a span of three minutes but were unable to find the back of the net early.
- Fordham opened the second half with a shot on goal just fifteen seconds in but Kaiser made the stop to keep it scoreless.
- The Seawolves took a 1-0 lead in the 50th minute when senior Stephen Turnbull (Holtsville, N.Y.) had his cross redirected into the goal by Fordham's Joergen Oland.
- Turnbull nearly doubled the lead just five minutes later but his shot was saved by Konstantin Weis.
- Fordham had a chance to equalize in the 88th minute but Kaiser stopped a one-timer by Makaj to seal the win.
Stats and Notes
- Kaiser's clean sheet lowered his GAA to 1.47, its lowest point of the season.
- Turnbull took a game-high three shots in the win.
- Fordham was held to just one corner kick.
