STONY BROOK, N.Y. – The Stony Brook volleyball team earned in third three-set sweep this season as the Seawolves took down Binghamton (25-23, 25-18, 25-14) on Friday night at Pritchard Gym.
The Seawolves' offense was spread out as nine Stony Brook players got in the kill column, including junior libero
Kiani Kerstetter (Cardiff, Calif.) who notched her first kill of the season and the second of her career.
The team is now 9-13 overall and 4-3 in conference play to rank third in the America East standings.
Coach Belzung's Reaction
"While I didn't think we started the match focused, we did a good job making adjustments and picking up our transition effort rather than letting it stress us. I'm proud of the group for being mature and fighting to get better. We have an important road weekend coming up and are looking forward to getting better in prep the next couple days."
By the Numbers vs. Binghamton
- Senior
Kendra Harlow (St. James, N.Y.) led the offensive attack with eight kills.
- Classmates
Jordan Gels (Lewis Center, Ohio) and
Liz Pulver (Temecula, Calif.) were second for Stony Brook with seven each.
- Redshirt freshman
Enitan Omolewa (Lauren, Md.) added in six kills herself.
- Senior
LeAnne Sakowicz (Wauconda, Ill.) laid claim to 28 of the team's 35 total assists.
- Senior
Kardasia Hitchcock (Alexander City, Ala.) tied her career high with three service aces, the most since her rookie season.
- Along with her kill, Kersttetter also tallied 13 digs to lead all players on the court.
- Sakowicz and Omolewa also combined for a game-high four block assists.
Notes
- Kerstetter is just four digs away from moving up to No. 7 in the record book in career digs.
- Stony Brook is 20-20 all-time against Binghamton and has swept the Bearcats in five-straight matches.
- The Seawolves outnumbered the Bearcats in kills (37-29), assists (35-28) and digs (45-38).
- Binghamton hit just .101 percent while Stony brook more than doubled that (.216).
