Stony Brook Falls to UAlbany in Four But Clinches Conference Tournament Bid

ALBANY, N.Y. – The Stony Brook volleyball team dropped a hard-fought match in four sets to UAlbany on Sunday afternoon at University Gym (14-25, 22-25, 25-23, 20-25). After falling into a 2-0 hole, the team rebounded with a third set victory before dropping a back-and-forth fourth set to the Great Danes.

Despite the result, the Seawolves (9-15, 4-5 AE) have clinched a postseason bid to the America East tournament which will be hosted by the Great Danes from November 22-24. Specific dates and times will be announced at a later date.

Coach Belzung's Reaction
"While we didn't start the way we needed to I am proud of our group for adjusting and finding ways to compete, especially from a defensive standpoint. This is the most high error we have been and that prevented the defense from being enough to take us to a fifth set. We are looking forward to honoring our seniors on Friday in a key match to determine our conference tournament seeding."

By the Numbers vs. UAlbany
  • Senior LeAnne Sakowicz (Wauconda, Ill.) notched her second double-double in a row, tallying 42 assists as well as 10 digs.
  • Redshirt freshman Enitan Omolewa (Laurel, Md.) led the Seawolves attack with 12 kills from a .417 hitting percentage.
  • Senior Kendra Harlow (St. James, N.Y.) and freshman Amiyah De'Long (Anaheim, Calif.) also reached double-figures in kills with 11 each.
  • Junior Kiani Kerstetter (Cardiff, Calif.) dug up 17 balls and senior Kardasia Hitchock (Alexander City, Ala.) backed her up with 14 digs.
