STONY BROOK, N.Y. – In the team's final regular season trip to the Southeast United States, the Stony Brook baseball team heads to Fayetteville, Ark. for a three-game set with No. 13 Arkansas that has been modified due to weather. Instead of a game a day as the previous two series have gone, the two teams will play a pair of games starting at 2 p.m. Eastern on Friday and a single game Saturday at 4 p.m. due to Sunday weather being projected in the low 30's with snow.
THE OPPONENT
The Razorbacks enter the series with six wins in seven tries, the only loss coming in 10 innings to USC in the series finale of that set on Sunday. Arkansas swept Eastern Illinois on opening weekend and then took two of three from the Trojans before a mid-week victory over Memphis 10-3 on Wednesday. Trevor Ezell leads the Razorbacks in hitting to start the year, hitting .423 in his seven starts with a home run and six RBI. The team has driven in 55 runs to opposition's 28 in the first seven games of the season and is hitting .300 as a squad. On the hill, Connor Noland has made a pair of starts, sporting a 2.08 ERA with nine strikeouts in 8.2 innings this season.
THE SERIES
This is the first time in the team's history that the Seawolves and Razorbacks are facing off.
YOUNG RELIABLE
Freshman
Nick DeGennaro (Toms River, N.J.) is proving to be a reliable bullpen option for head coach
Matt Senk in the early portions of 2019 after throwing another strong three-plus-inning effort against Southeastern Louisiana. In two appearances this season, he has gone seven innings and allowed two earned runs while striking out five opposing batters and walking just two.
FINDING A GROOVE
Junior
Chris Hamilton (Schenectady, N.Y.) has started to find his swing at the plate, currently riding a four-game hitting streak into Arkansas. After going 0-for-7 in his first two outings, Hamilton is 7-for-15 in his last four games and hit .500 at Southeastern Louisiana this past weekend. He hit an opposite field home run to get the offense going on Friday night, going 3-for-4.
MAKE ME LIKE MIKE
Junior
Michael Wilson (Colonia, N.J.) earned America East Player of the Week honors after recording an eight-hit weekend in Miami, Fla. against Florida International. This included a game-winning home run with two outs and two strikes in the top of the ninth to put the Seawolves up 7-6 on Saturday. He also added a home run in Friday's contest and a three-hit output on Sunday of the opening weekend.
PICKING UP WHERE WE LEFT OFF
The Stony Brook Seawolves were picked second in the 2019 America East preseason coaches poll, receiving two of the seven available first-place votes. Stony Brook sits behind Hartford, who received the other five, in the poll, starting the season as the two ended last year with the teams meeting in the Championship Round of the 2018 America East Baseball Championships.
ON DECK
The Seawolves open their home slate next week, taking on Manhattan and LIU Brooklyn in midweek contests before a three-game slate with Wagner comes to Long Island Saturday and Sunday afternoon.
