STONY BROOK, N.Y. – The Stony Brook baseball team will play its first home games of the 2019 season on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week, breaking a nine-day hiatus from its last contest, a road matchup with Arkansas in Fayetteville, Ark. The Seawolves match up with Iona on Tuesday afternoon, while Wednesday's contest will be a rescheduled game from last week with LIU Brooklyn. Both games start at 3 p.m.

ABOUT THE GAELS
Iona enters Tuesday's contest with one win in 12 tries on the diamond this season, defeating Hofstra 4-2 in its lone victory of the season. The Gaels' most recent contest is a 5-1 defeat at the hands of Fordham in the Bronx on Saturday morning by a final line of 5-1. Fran Kinsey has made 12 starts on the year and is the leading hitter for Iona, coming in with an average of .283 at the plate. Jake Field leads the team in production, hitting a home run to go along with eight RBI on the season. In four starts, Stephen Hansen has a 4.57 ERA with 20 strikeouts in 21.2 innings, leading the Gaels in those categories. Jason Goetz is holding batters to a .182 average in 3.1 innings, making appearances in four games this season.

ABOUT THE BLACKBIRDS
LIU Brooklyn comes in with also just the one win, taking down the Georgia Bulldogs in a pitcher's duel, 1-0. The Blackbirds are coming off a weekend when they lost all three to East Tennessee State and open conference play this coming weekend with Sacred Heart. Andrew Smith is the leading hitter for the reigning Northeast Conference champions, entering with a .225 average with starts in all 10 contests. He also has a double, triple and four RBI to his name. In two starts this season, Jackson Svete has recorded a 2.08 ERA in 13 innings of work. He's allowed three earned on six hits, walking six and striking out nine on the year.

THE SERIES WITH THE GAELS
The Seawolves have won 16 of the 20 matchups with their New York City foe, including a split of the two games at Joe Nathan Field last season. Sophomore
John Tuccillo (Clinton Corners, N.Y.) recorded a pair of RBI in the 5-2 win a season ago. Stony Brook won both games away from home against Iona.

Stony Brook is 7-0 against LIU Brooklyn all-time, including the team's 5-3 victory a season ago at Joe Nathan Field. The Seawolves scored a pair in the first and two more in the third to get out to an early lead, paving the way for the win.

Stony Brook opens America East play on Saturday, welcoming UMBC for a three-game set that begins with two games at Noon on Saturday. The series finale will be Sunday at the same time.
