Early offense helps Seawolves get back to winning ways

STONY BROOK, N.Y. – The Stony Brook baseball team got on the board early, scoring three in the bottom of the first, and did not look back in a 9-3 win over LIU Brooklyn on Wednesday afternoon, snapping a four-game losing streak for the club.

Senior Bret Clarke (Royersford, Pa.) got the win, throwing two scoreless innings in which he struck out two.

  • Making his first collegiate start, freshman Brad Hipsley (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) kept the runs coming in the fourth, looping a single over second and into right center to make it 4-0.
  • After a sophomore John Tuccillo (Clinton Corners, N.Y.) sacrifice fly, Hamilton drove in two more with a single to left that made it 7-0 Seawolves.
  • Giordano hit a hard grounder to short that he was able to reach on, extending the lead to 8-0 after Alamo slid in ahead of the tag.
  • Brock Hallum drove in all three runs for LIU, the first two of which would come on a single to right. He later drove in a run on a ground out to first.
