STONY BROOK, N.Y.- The Stony Brook softball team is set to host Fordham in its home opener on Tuesday at 1 pm, and then travel to Holy Cross on Wednesday for a doubleheader starting at 2 pm. 
 
LAST TIME OUT
The Seawolves are coming off of a 4-1 weekend at the Buff and Blue Challenge. The team defeated George Washington twice, Georgetown and Oakland. The lone loss came on the Friday when the Seawolves faced Georgetown the first time, and fell short to the Hoyas 4-3. Irene Rivera (Sylmar, Calif.) and Lindsey Osmer (Martinez, Calif.) had strong performances at the plate in the tournament, and in the circle Melissa Rahrich (Brighton, Colo.),Taylor Pechin (Harrington Del.) and Shelbi Denman (Las Vegas, Nev.) all picked up wins.
 
SCOUTING FORDHAM
The Rams come into the week with a 7-15 record on the season. The team is coming off of a 1-4 record at the Mercer Bears Classic. The lone win came against Ball State in the first game 4-3, and the losses were at the hands of UConn, Mercer, and Ball State in the second game. Senior outfielder Chelsea Skrepenak leads Fordham with a .406 batting average, and junior Madie Aughinbaugh has seen most of the action in the circle pitching in 75.1 innings, while owning a 4.78 ERA.
 
SCOUTING HOLY CROSS
The Crusaders come into the week with a 2-15 record on the season. The team is coming off of four straight losses at the St. John's Invitational. At the tournament, the team faced St. John's twice, Hofstra, and Wagner. Holy Cross is led by senior infielder Taylor Wahler who has 18 hits, and freshman Kelly Nelson has seen most of the action in the circle pitching in 55.1 innings.
 
IRENE THE MACHINE
Rivera had a breakout weekend at the plate in the Buff and Blue Challenge. The senior had eight hits in which two were home runs, and seven RBIs. 
 
DENMAN LOOKING STRONG IN THE CIRCLE
Denman had a stellar weekend in the circle pitching in 12.2 innings, only giving up two runs. The freshman picked her first collegiate win on Saturday against Georgetown, and added another on Sunday against Oakland.
 
IN THE RANKS
Osmer currently ranks fifth in the America East with a .379 batting average and teammate Katelyn Corr (Suffield, Conn.) is right below her in sixth at .378.
 
ON DECK
The Seawolves will host Iona on Friday at 1 pm.
