STONY BROOK, N.Y. – The Stony Brook baseball team started strong on Sunday afternoon, defeating Sacred Heart 8-1 in Bridgeport, Conn. en route to its second consecutive weekend sweep.
Senior
Bret Clarke (Royersford, Pa.) threw 6.2 strong innings on the mound, allowing just one earned run on four hits with eight strikeouts to allow Stony Brook get out to an early advantage. Junior
Michael Wilson (Colonia, N.J.) had three hits on the afternoon in four at-bats, scoring two runs and hitting a double to help the Seawolves at the plate.

SCORING SUMMARY
- Stony Brook started the scoring in the first as senior Michael Russell cleared the bases with a double that scored three, giving the Seawolves a lead in the top of the first.
- Two more runs were scored in the second, as junior Chris Hamilton (Schenectady, N.Y.) drove in junior Nick Grande (Smithtown, N.Y.) and Wilson followed that up with a double to make it 5-0 visitors in the second.
- The Seawolves put two more on the board in the fifth and seventh innings, with sophomore John Tuccillo (Clinton Corners, N.Y.) driving in a run with a single to left and senior Sean Buckhout (West Nyack, N.Y.) hitting a sacrifice fly in the seventh.
- After Sacred Heart scored its first run in the bottom half of the seventh, freshman Brad Hipsley (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) finished the scoring by coming home on a wild pitch in the top half of the eighth.
STATS AND NOTES
- In his last 14.2 innings of work, Clarke has allowed just two earned runs, dropping his season ERA to 2.40.
- He has 13 strikeouts in his last two starts and has earned three consecutive victories.
- Wilson and Hamilton each extended their hit streaks this season, with Wilson's moving up to 10 on the season and Hamilton's currently standing at nine.
- Stony Brook's eight-game winning streak is now tied for the fifth-longest active streak in the country.
