STONY BROOK, N.Y. – Currently holding the nation's second-longest active winning streak, the Stony Brook baseball team looks to make it nine wins in a row on Tuesday afternoon, trekking to Piscataway, N.J. for a matchup with Big Ten foe Rutgers at 3 p.m.
The Seawolves are coming off an 8-1 win over Sacred Heart on Sunday afternoon in Bridgeport, Conn. that finished its second consecutive weekend sweep. Senior
Bret Clarke (Royersford, Pa.) went 6.1 strong innings and junior
Michael Wilson (Colonia, N.J.) recorded three hits on the afternoon.
ABOUT THE SCARLET KNIGHTS
Rutgers comes into its lone midweek contest losers of four in a row after being swept by Indiana State in Fort Myers, Fla. over the weekend. The Scarlet Knights lost all three games by a combined five runs to the Sycamores, dropping the Sunday finale 4-3. Tim Dezzi is the team's leading hitter, batting at a .319 clip this season with a pair of doubles and five RBI to his name as well. Carmen Sclafani is the leading power hitter with two of Rutgers' four homers this season.
On the Hill, Harry Rutkowski has a 2.50 ERA in six starts this season with 35 strikeouts in 36 innings. He's allowing batters to hit .254 against him, while Tevin Murray has allowed opposing hitters to a .241 average. Murray sits inside the top 30 nationally with 12.9 strikeouts per nine innings this season, which is also good for second in the Big Ten.

CLARKE IN CONTROL
Senior
Bret Clarke (Royersford, Pa.) has quickly lowered his ERA thanks to back-to-back quality starts from the mound. He has allowed two earned in his last 14.2 innings, dropping his season average to 2.40, good for second in the conference amongst pitchers with three or more starts. His .218 average against is third-lowest amongst pitchers within the same category. He featured a 2.19 ERA his freshman season, going 6-2 on the year.
WILSON HAS THE JUICE
Junior
Michael Wilson (Colonia, N.J.) is one of the nation's leading power hitters, currently ranking seventh in the country in slugging percentage (.845) and in batting average (.448). He also sits 10
th in hits per game and RBI per contest. Over his 10-game hitting streak, Wilson is hitting .528 with 14 RBI, four doubles, two triples and two homers with hits in seven of his last 11 at-bats.
TOP THREE GETTING IT DONE
The top three in Stony Brook's lineup, Wilson joined by juniors
Chris Hamilton (Schenectady, N.Y.) and
Nick Grande (Smithtown, N.Y.), are helping lead the Seawolves at the plate. All three of them are batting over .340 on the season, with Hamilton and Grande each sitting at .343 and all of them have a .540 slugging and .430 on-base percentage or better. The trio has also combined for 10 of Stony Brook's 10 home runs and 50 of the team's 107 runs driven in.
ON DECK
Stony Brook continues conference play this weekend when they welcome the Black Bears of Maine for a three-game set at Joe Nathan Field. The teams will play a twinbill Saturday starting at Noon with the series finale commencing Sunday at Noon.
