STONY BROOK, N.Y. – For the third consecutive weekend, the Stony Brook baseball team took all three contests en route to a sweep after securing a 2-0 win over Maine on Sunday morning that continued the Seawolves' run in first place of the America East.
Standing now at 14-8 overall and 6-0 in league play, the Seawolves got another great starting pitching performance from
Bret Clarke (Royersford, Pa.), who went eight scoreless while allowing three hits. Freshman
Brad Hipsley (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) was the deciding factor as he laid down a squeeze bunt that scored senior
Brandon Alamo (Artesia, Calif.) to give Stony Brook all it would need on the morning.
SENK'S REACTION
"We ran into an outstanding pitching performance today but to the team's credit we pitched and played defense until we were able to break through with a couple of runs in the eighth. I'm extremely proud of how we've started conference play and also how well we played at home all March"
SCORING SUMMARY
- With runners on second and third with one out, the lefty Hipsley blooped a bunt that one-hopped to the pitcher and allowed Alamo to slide into home safely.
- The rally continued when senior Brandon Janofsky (Jackson, N.J.) hit a sacrifice fly to right to score sophomore John Tuccillo (Clinton Corners, N.Y.).
STATS AND NOTES
- After the first 19 batters were set down in order, six of the last 10 batters reached for the Seawolves to make sure Clarke's start stood up.
- Clarke's ERA dropped to 1.57 after his outing today, which would be just inside the Top 60 nationally as of Sunday's leaderboard.

- Alamo's single in the eighth extended his hitting streak to nine games, the longest active streak on the team.
- Grande worked a walk in the eighth that grew his stretch to 16 games in a row in which he has reached base safely.
- The Seawolves finish the month of March 11-5 and winners of 11 of their last 12. They have also won nine games in a row at home, which is tied for the sixth-longest active home winning streak in the country.
