Pickel Jr. Nets Game-Winning Goal with 16 Seconds Left to Lift Seawolves Over Bryant

STONY BROOK, N.Y. – Junior attacker Chris Pickel Jr. (Bayport, N.Y.) scored on a rebound with 16 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter to give the Stony Brook men's lacrosse team a 9-8 victory over visiting Bryant on Saturday afternoon at Kenneth P. LaValle Stadium.
 
The Seawolves (3-3) earned the first victory at home in 2019 and snapped a two-game skid, while the Bulldogs (2-4) dropped their third straight contest.
 
Freshman midfielder Layton Harrell (Newtown, Conn.) and Pickel Jr. each posted two goals for the Seawolves, while junior goalkeeper Michael Bollinger (Holbrook, N.Y.) recorded a career-best 16 saves in net.

"This was a great team win for our guys, especially coming off the gut wrenching loss on Tuesday. To be 3-3 at this point makes us really optimistic moving to the conference season."

HIGHLIGHTS
  • Chris Pickel Jr. scored on a rebound of junior attacker Tom Haun's (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) shot with 16 seconds left in the game to break the 8-8 tie.
  • After Bryant scored three straight goals to open the second quarter to take a 4-2 lead, Stony Brook closed the quarter with three goals of their own and scored a fourth straight in the third quarter that lifted the Seawolves to a 6-4 advantage. 
  • Stony Brook led 8-5 with 1:54 left in the third quarter, but Bryant rattled off three straight goals to pull even with 9:25 left in the game.
NOTES
  • Chris Pickel Jr. tallied his fourth multi-goal game of the season and 10 of his career with his two goals on Saturday. His goals were the 32nd and 33rd of his career.
  • Tom Haun netted his 57th career goal on Saturday with his 12th goal of the season. He also extended his consecutive games with a goal streak to six.
  • Sophomore attacker Patrick Kaschalk (Windsor, Ontario) scored his 23rd goal of his career and fourth of the season.
  • Sophomore attacker Jack Walsh (Miller Place, N.Y.) collected his third multi-assist game of the season and the 10th of his career with his two assists on Saturday. They were his 32nd and 33rd of his career.
  • Layton Harrell recorded his first multi-goal game of his career with his two goals on Saturday. He now has four goals for his career.
  • Freshman midfielder David Estrella (North Babylon, N.Y.) scored his first collegiate goal on Saturday, scoring with 6:20 left in the second quarter.
  • Freshman midfielder Caleb Pearson (Langley, B.C.) scored his first collegiate goal on Saturday. He tied the game at 4-4 with 4:52 left in the second quarter.
  • Michael Bollinger picked up his 12th career victory and recorded a career-best 16 saves in Saturday's victory.
  • Sophomore midfielder Mike McCannell (Orangeville, Ontario) scored his 19th career goals and fourth of the season on Saturday.
ON DECK
Stony Brook opens America East Conference play next Saturday when they travel across the Sound to face Hartford for a 1 p.m. faceoff.
