STONY BROOK, N.Y. – Fresh off the team's third consecutive weekend sweep, the Stony Brook baseball team heads to the north side of New York City on Wednesday afternoon for a midweek clash with Iona, the second of three between the teams this season. The Seawolves swept Maine over the weekend to improve to 6-0 in America East play and are looking for redemption as the team lost to the Gaels at home earlier in the month by a 12-8 final.

ABOUT THE GAELS
Ione comes into the middle game of this stretched-out, three-game 2019 against Stony Brook as losers of its weekend series with Seton Hall. The Gaels dropped the final two games against the Pirates in New Rochelle, N.Y. by a combined score of 21-3. Joe DeMaio and Sam Punzi are the two leading hitters for the squad, with both just over the .300 mark on the season at .304 and .303, respectively. Punzi is second on the team to Jake Field in RBI, with Field leading the team at 16 and Punzi sitting with 13.

In seven starts this season, Stephen Hansen has a 3.83 ERA, striking out 40 batters in 44.2 innings. He has allowed 19 earned runs on 54 hits during that span. Jason Goetz has made eight appearances out of the bullpen, currently holding a 3.12 ERA. Hansen is just outside the Top 50 nationally in walks per nine, giving 1.41 free passes per nine innings, and in strikeout-walk ratio, which currently sits a 5.71.

THE SERIES WITH THE GAELS
The Seawolves have won 17 of the 21 matchups with their New York City foe, dropping the matchup on March 12 by a 12-8 final. Iona scored nine runs combined in the sixth, seventh and eighth innings to aid its comeback and allow the Gaels to win the opener. There is one more game scheduled between the two teams. It's set for April 9 at 3:30 p.m. at Joe Nathan Field.

ON DECK
The top two teams in the America East Preseason Poll meet this weekend, as Stony Brook heads to Hartford for a three-game set with the Hawks. It starts with a doubleheader on Saturday at Noon and then a single game on Sunday at the same time.
