STONY BROOK, N.Y. – For just the second time all time, regional powers will meet in Queens, N.Y. on Tuesday afternoon as the Stony Brook baseball team heads to St. John's.
This will be followed by a home midweek contest, the last of the season for the Seawolves, as they host Fairfield at Joe Nathan Field. Both games are slated for 3 p.m. starts.
ABOUT THE RED STORM
St. John's has won 20 of its last 25 games, including most recently taking two of three from Villanova in Queens over the weekend. Overall, the team sits at 22-14.
Mike Antico is the lone hitter above .300 for the Red Storm this season, currently hitting at a .339 with four homers and 21 RBI in the 2019 campaign. Sean McGeehan leads the squad with five home runs.
In nine starts this season, both Joe LaSorsa and Sean Mooney have an ERA below 2.20, with LaSorsa leading the way at 1.73 on the season. Out of the bullpen, Turner French has had 16 appearances and 16 strikeouts in 14.1 innings.
The Red Storm is 31
st in the country in ERA, with a 3.62 average as a staff. LaSorsa sits 28
th in the country in the category, while Mooney is 66
th.
THE SERIES WITH THE RED STORM
The teams have met once before in program history, with St. John's winning in 2013 at Joe Nathan Field. This will be the first meeting in Queens.
ABOUT THE STAGS
Fairfield has won nine of its last 10 en route to a 23-15 record entering the week. They are coming off a series win against Monmouth, taking two of the three games with the Hawks.
Jack Gethings is the team's leading hitter, currently going at a .413 clip while Anthony Boselli is hitting .336. The two have combined for 25 doubles and 64 RBI on the season as well.
Austin Pope is the team's leading starter, currently with a 2.19 ERA on the year in nine starts. Both Brendan Harkin and Nick Grabek has a sub-two ERA out of the bullpen in a combined 27 appearances.
THE SERIES WITH THE STAGS
Stony Brook has won 11 of the 16 total meetings between the two schools. The teams combined for 29 runs in Fairfield last season with the Stags ultimately prevailing 19-10.
ON DECK
Stony Brook resumes America East play this weekend in Baltimore, Md. to play three games with UMBC starting with a doubleheader on Saturday before a single game on Sunday.
