Stony Brook Rallies, Cannot Prevail at St. John's Tuesday

STONY BROOK, N.Y. – Senior Brandon Alamo (Artesia, Calif.) drove in a pair of runs to tie the game late, but the Stony Brook baseball team dropped a midweek contest with St. John's 6-3 in Queens, N.Y. on Tuesday afternoon.

Alamo's lone hit of the day was a drive out to center that scored a pair of runs to knot the game at three after St. John's scored three of the first four to start the day. He has now driven in a run in four consecutive contests.

SENK'S REACTION
"When you're in a close game against a solid opponent like St. John's you need to make big pitches and get timely hits when the opportunity arises. Unfortunately, we came up short in those areas and they got it done."

GAME SUMMARY
  • After St. John's scored a run in each of the first two innings, junior Nick Grande (Smithtown, N.Y.) scored on a wild pitch to cut the deficit in half.
  • St. John's returned the favor in the sixth by scoring on a wild pitch and then Alamo's lone hit of the day landed a couple feet from the warning track in center, allowing senior Brandon Janofsky (Jackson, N.J.) and Grande to come home and tie the game.
  • The hosts added a go-ahead sacrifice fly to center and a two-run double in the eighth to finish their scoring.
STATS AND NOTES
  • Grande has now reached in 29 consecutive contests, while Alamo has reached base in 22 straight.
  • Alamo has driven in seven runs in the last four games.
  • The Smithtown, N.Y. native has also recorded a hit in 13 consecutive contests.
  • Junior Adam Erickson (Roseville, Calif.) threw two scoreless innings in relief, recording two strikeouts as well.
