Seawolves Set to Travel to UMBC on Wednesday

STONY BROOK, N.Y.- The Stony Brook softball team is set to resume conference play on Wednesday, when the team travels to UMBC for a 1 pm single game. 
 
LAST TIME OUT
The Seawolves are coming off of a doubleheader split at Lehigh on Saturday. In the 3-0 victory in game two, Shelbi Denman (Las Vegas, Nev.) went all seven innings in the circle, earning her ninth win of the season. Jourdin Hering (Federal Way, Wash.) paced the offense with a big two-run single in the fifth to extend the lead to three. 
 
SCOUTING UMBC
The Retrievers enter the week with a 23-18 record (4-7 AE). The team is coming off a three-game sweep at the hands of UMass Lowell. Sophomore outfielder Sierra Pierce leads UMBC in hits (45) and batting average (.354). Freshman Courtney Coppersmith has seen most of the action in the circle, pitching in 169 innings, owning a 1.78 ERA.
 
GOING THE DISTANCE
Melissa Rahrich (Brighton, Colo.) leads the team with 18 complete games in the circle. Denman has seven and Taylor Pechin (Harrington, Del.) has two. 
 
KEEP THE STREAK
Katelyn Corr (Suffield, Conn.) has reached base safely in 24 straight games.
 
IN THE NATIONAL RANKS
Rahrich is number one in the nation in toughest to strikeout. She only has one in 118 at bats.
 
IN THE CONFERENCE RANKS
Stony Brook leads the America East in batting average (.291) and pitching (2.70 ERA). Corr is first in runs scored (39) and Rahrich is first in RBIs (44) and home runs (11).
 
ON DECK
The Seawolves will host UMass Lowell for a three-game weekend series. The teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday starting at 1 pm, and then a single game on Sunday at 12 pm. Prior to game one of the doubleheader on Saturday; Stony Brook will honor its seniors for Senior Day.
