STONY BROOK, N.Y. – The Stony Brook baseball team hits the road for 11 consecutive games as the regular season winds down and the trip starts with a three-game set at UMBC starting Saturday at 1 p.m.
Â
The Seawolves are coming off a series win over Easter weekend, taking two of three from UAlbany to remain in first place of the America East, standing at 11-4 in league play this season.
Â
THE OPPONENT
The Retrievers enter the weekend at 5-10 in league play and an even 19-19 overall this season, looking to maintain its playoff positioning with just three league series left before the conference tournament.
Â
UMBC took two of three from second-place Hartford last weekend, winning the opener and the rubber game of the series in Baltimore, Md. This will be the second of three consecutive home series for the Retrievers.
Â
Terrence Pinkston currently leads the team in hitting, batting at a .333 clip. Christian Torres sits in second on the team leaderboard at .317 but comes into the series with a team-high 35 RBI.
Â
Cooper Adams, the team's probable starter for game two of the series, has a 4.21 ERA in five starts this season. He has allowed 40 hits in 36.1 innings of work.
Â
THE SERIES
The Seawolves have won 55 of the 70 all-time meetings between the two schools, with Stony Brook sweeping the home series earlier in March. The last time the teams met in Baltimore, Md., the Seawolves took two of three in the last regular season series of 2017.
Â
B MORE LIKE MO
Senior
Brandon Alamo has saved his best season for his last on Long Island, currently hitting at a .351 average that is good for third on the team. He is also on a 27-game streak in which he has reached base. The west coast native also sits inside the top 10 in doubles per game. His 23 RBI are eight more than he had last season, driving in at least one in eight of his last 11 appearances.
CLIMBING THE RANKS
Both
Bret Clarke and
Nick Grande have climbed up the Stony Brook ranks in the record books as the season begins to wind down. With six this season, Clarke now sits tied for sixth in Seawolves history with 16 wins during his career. Grande's career batting average (.352) is good for eighth in the program's Division I history, while he is fifth in career stolen bases with 49 swipes.
Â
INSIDE THE NATIONAL RANKS
