Stony Brook Continues Road Trip in NYC Boroughs

STONY BROOK, N.Y. – In its last midweek contests of the season, the Stony Brook baseball team will continue its road trip in two of the five New York City boroughs this week.

The Seawolves start at LIU Brooklyn on Tuesday before traveling to Manhattan Wednesday.  This is the fourth and fifth games of an 11-game road trip.

ABOUT THE BLACKBIRDS
LIU Brooklyn enters the midweek contest with a 17-23 overall record, including 8-10 in Northeast Conference play. The team is coming off a series loss against Sacred Heart but won four of its previous five before that.

The Blackbirds took down the Pioneers in the opening game of the set, 10-3, but could not finish off the weekend victory, dropping the other two games 17-10 and 9-3.

Rob Griswold leads the squad at the plate, currently hitting at a .299 average in 40 starts this season. Three players are tied with four homers on the year, with Alex Briggs leading the way with 26 RBI.

Griswold is the team's leading pitcher out of the bullpen, carrying a 2.51 ERA and 3-4 record after 17 appearances. Jackson Svete has made nine starts on the hill and has a 3.15 ERA to show for it with 47 strikeouts in 54.1 innings.

THE SERIES WITH THE BLACKBIRDS
Stony Brook is 8-0 against LIU Brooklyn all-time. This includes a 9-3 victory over the Seawolves earlier this season at Joe Nathan Field. The hosts jumped out early, scoring three in the first and four in the fourth to take a commanding lead that they would see through to the end.

ABOUT THE JASPERS
Manhattan enters with a 17-27 overall record, including a 10-5 resume in MAAC play during the 2019 campaign. The team has dropped five of the last seven games but is coming off a series victory against Monmouth in West Long Branch, N.J.

The Jaspers took the first two against the Hawks but fell in the series finale, 5-2, after holding Monmouth to four runs combined in the Saturday doubleheader.

Nick Cimillo is having a banner 2019 for the Wednesday hosts, currently hitting at a .365 clip and slugging at .521 for the Jaspers. He also has a team-high six homers along with 24 RBI this season at the plate.

On the hill, T.J. Stuart has made eight starts and currently has a 3.90 ERA and a 5-4 record to his name. In relief, Teddy Sabato has a team-high 15 appearances out of the bullpen and holds a 4.74 ERA.

THE SERIES WITH THE JASPERS
The Seawolves have a 7-2 edge in the all-time series with Manhattan that dates back to 1981. Both games were played at Joe Nathan Field last season and the teams split. Stony Brook won the first matchup 4-3 before Manhattan came back to Long Island two weeks later and won 12-3.
