Resk Ropes Three Doubles, Matches Career High at LIU Brooklyn

STONY BROOK, N.Y. – After coming from behind twice to tie the game, the Stony Brook baseball team was not able to ride the momentum victoriously as LIU Brooklyn won via a walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth.

Senior Dylan Resk (Ardsley, N.Y.) hit three doubles to lead the Seawolves top six of the order that combined for 11-for-24 on the day but it was not enough as Stony Brook and LIU Brooklyn split the two games they played this season.

SENK'S REACTION
"We did a terrific job of fighting back twice to tie the game but walks hurt us the entire game and especially in the bottom of the ninth when there was no room for free bases"

GAME SUMMARY
  • The Blackbirds scored four in the first, powered by a RBI double down the left field line and a three-run homer to right.
  • The first of Resk's three doubles cleared the bases in the third, allowing three runs to score and cut three-quarters of the way into LIU's lead.
  • Freshman Johnny Decker (Coeymans Hollow, N.Y.) finished the four-run frame with a double down the left field line to score Resk and even the proceedings.
  • LIU re-took the lead in the fourth with a home run to left and then doubled the advantage in the sixth with a run-scoring single to left.
  • Stony Brook rallied with a pair of runs in the eighth as junior Chris Hamilton (Schenectady, N.Y.) smacked his second hit of the day into right to score senior Brandon Janofsky (Jackson, N.J.).
  • Junior Michael Wilson (Colonia, N.J.) then scored classmate Nick Grande (Smithtown, N.Y.) on a sacrifice fly to again even the game at six.
  • LIU won it in the bottom of the ninth with a bases-loaded single to left.
STATS AND NOTES
  • With a single to short in the third, senior Brandon Alamo (Artesia, Calif.) extended his streak to 31 consecutive games reaching base. He is one of 19 players nationally to come into the week with a streak of 30 games or longer.
  • He has recorded a hit in 25 of his last 27 games, raising his batting average 95 points since March 2.
  • Sophomore Connor Clark (Manorville, N.Y.) had a strong outing in relief, allowing just one earned over four innings with six strikeouts.
  • Resk has equaled his career high with 12 doubles this season.
  • Decker is hitting .333 (5-for-15) over his last four appearances with six RBI.
  • Wilson has enjoyed a strong return to the lineup, hitting .421 (8-for-19) in the last five games. He has also scored a run in each of the last four games.
