STONY BROOK, N.Y. – Bending but not breaking in game two, the Stony Brook baseball team earned a split in its first two games with Hartford on Saturday in West Hartford, Conn. The Saturday results ensured that the Seawolves would remain in first place come weekend's end.
After securing a 5-3 lead in the opener, Hartford rattled off six unanswered to win game one by a 9-5 final. The Hawks rallied again in game two, cutting the Seawolves' lead from six to one but junior
Sam Turcotte (Toronto, Ontario) slammed the door for the save while striking out the side to keep Hartford at bay.

GAME 1 SUMMARY
- Stony Brook got on the board early in the opener with junior Chris Hamilton (Schenectady, N.Y.) and sophomore John Tuccillo (Clinton Corners, N.Y.) recording a RBI double and single, respectively, in the first.
- After Hartford's two-run triple in the second gave them the lead, the Seawolves scored one in the third thanks to a junior Michael Wilson (Colonia, N.J.) double to tie the proceedings.
- The Seawolves then scored two in the fourth, with senior Dylan Resk (West Nyack, N.Y.) hitting a double to give Stony Brook a 4-3 advantage.
- Junior Nick Grande (Smithtown, N.Y.) made it 5-3 with a single to right.
- Hartford then scored two in the fifth, two in the sixth and two in the seventh to finish the scoring and take game one.
GAME 2 SUMMARY
- The Seawolves scored two in the first, with Wilson playing a part in both. His RBI double down the right-field line gave Stony Brook the lead and him coming home on a wild pitch doubled it before Hartford could bat.
- Stony Brook added three more in the fourth, with freshman Johnny Decker (Coeymans Hollow, N.Y.) scoring on a passed ball, Grande sending a RBI single up the middle and Wilson plating Grande with a sacrifice fly.
- After Hamilton's sacrifice fly made it 6-0 in the top half of the sixth, Hartford rallied.
- The hosts loaded the bases, scoring two runs on a single and fielder's choice, before clearing the bases with a three-run home run to right.
STATS AND NOTES
- The Seawolves' two-game lead in the America East remains intact with the team standing at 7-1 in league play.
- Stony Brook is now 12-2 when scoring six or more runs in a game.
- Both Grande and senior Brandon Alamo (Artesia, Calif.) extended their on-base streaks after reaching in both contests. Grande's sits at 19 and Alamo's is now at 16.
- Herrmann now sits at 4-1 on the season after he received the winning decision today.
- Grande on the day went 5-for-8 with five runs scored, two doubles and two RBI.
- Turcotte picked up his second save of the season by striking out the side in the seventh.
