STONY BROOK, N.Y. – After another late Hartford surge, the Stony Brook baseball team fell to the host Hawks 6-5 on Sunday afternoon, dropping two of three on the road in its first conference series loss of 2019.
Senior
Bret Clarke (Royersford, Pa.) went 6.1 innings in the start, allowing three earned and striking out four while classmate
Dylan Resk (Ardsley, N.Y.) went a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate.
SCORING SUMMARY
- As they did in both games Saturday, the Seawolves got on the board first in the series finale, scoring three in the second.
- Resk drove in a single in the hole between short and third to start the scoring, then junior Nick Grande (Smithtown, N.Y.) added a two-run double down the left field line to make it 3-0.
- Senior Brandon Alamo (Artesia, Calif.) joined in the scoring in the fifth, sending a pitch into left-center to score Grande and up Stony Brook's advantage to 4-0.
- Stony Brook's scoring was finished in the sixth when Resk sent a double into the left-center field gap, scoring freshman Johnny Decker (Coeymans Hollow, N.Y.).
- Hartford scored the next six unanswered, with two RBI doubles and two RBI singles in the seventh to bring the game even at five.
- The hosts then took the lead for good with a sacrifice fly to left in the eighth.
STATS AND NOTES
- With his two-out double, Grande has now reached base safely in 20 consecutive games while Alamo has now reached in 15 straight contests.
- Resk's four-hit outing was the second of his career with the first coming on April 8, 2017 against Sacred Heart.
- The Seawolves now sit 7-2 in America East play, one game ahead of Hartford in the league standings.
- Grande finished the weekend 7-for-12, joining Resk (5-for-10) as the team's hitters that culminated at .500 or above against Hartford.
