STONY BROOK, N.Y.-The Stony Brook softball team is set to continue conference play on Wednesday, when the team hosts UMBC for a doubleheader starting at 2 pm.
LAST TIME OUT
The Seawolves are coming off of a conference series loss at the hands of Binghamton. The team ended up taking the middle game in the series by a score of 3-2. In the victory,
Shelbi Denman (Las Vegas, Nev.) was stellar in the circle, only giving up two runs. Denman is now 6-2 on the season.
SCOUTING UMBC
The Retrievers enter the week with a 19-13 record (4-2 AE). The team is coming off a series win to Maine this past weekend. In one of the team's victories, freshman pitcher Courtney Coppersmith pitched a no hitter. This wasn't the first no hitter for Coppersmith, who pitched her first one of the season against Binghamton the week before. On top of all her success in the circle, Coppersmith also leads UMBC in batting average (.391).
GOING THE DISTANCE
Melissa Rahrich (Brighton, Colo.) leads the team in complete games with 13.
THE HITS KEEP COMING FOR CORR
Katelyn Corr (Suffield, Conn.) leads the team in multi-hit games with 12. In nine of the games Corr has tallied two hits.
IN THE CONFERENCE RANKS
Stony Brook is first in the America East in batting average (.305). Rahrich leads in RBIs (38) and home runs (9).
IN THE NATIONAL RANKS
Rahrich ranks third in toughest to strikeout, only having one in 93 at bats.
ON DECK
The Seawolves will continue conference play when they head to UAlbany for a three-game weekend series. The team will face the Great Danes in a 1 pm doubleheader on Saturday followed by a 12 pm single game on Sunday.
